DANIEL THÖLE
Daniel is a senior communications professional with an international perspective and a strong background in corporate and financial communications. He has twelve years’ large communications agency experience in London and Johannesburg advising multinational companies across a range of sectors and communications disciplines, with a particular focus on Africa and emerging markets.
He is a trusted advisor to senior management, heads of investor relations, heads of communications and boards. As a former senior journalist and Companies Editor of Business Day, the key financial daily in Johannesburg, South Africa, his media experience covers print, online, radio and TV journalism.
Prior to establishing Fletcher, Daniel was Vice President: Communications for Sibanye Stillwater in Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest gold producer and a rapidly growing global precious metals company. With unparalleled experience in dealing with the issues, markets and stakeholders influencing modern companies in South Africa and globally, Daniel has advised some of the largest companies in the world, including BHP Billiton, Barclays, ArcelorMittal, Serco, Rio Tinto, MTN, Barrick, and Anglo American on stakeholder engagement, crises, transactions and financial results.
IIJA GRAULICH
Ilja’s commercial work has focused predominantly on the equity and debt markets, assessing those in line with his corporate development responsibilities and evaluating the strategic opportunities afforded to the myriad companies he has built, worked for and worked with.
A former journalist and business news editor with an MBA in Finance from GIBS Business School, Ilja has spent the last 17 years in various investor relations, communications and strategic development roles, primarily in the mining industry and predominantly in emerging markets, with a strong focus on Africa. His capital markets experience spans various jurisdictions, including ASX, SEHK, JSE, LSE, NYSE, NASDAQ and the TSX. He has also acted as a non-executive director on public and private companies.
He has been involved in major company reorganisations and corporate governance clean-ups. He has advised on shareholding structures and proxy events, while also starting his own businesses, including a private mining company in which he is still a major shareholder.
Ilja speaks regularly at emerging market and investor conferences and has dealt with both buy-side and sell-side investors in all major capital market destinations around the world.
CHRIS STEEL
Chris has 25 years international experience in corporate affairs and reputation management; issues, crisis and change management; employee, executive and media communications to deliver highly integrated communication campaigns having lived and worked in the UK, US and now South Africa.
Chris focuses on supporting CEO’s, senior executives, private equity and corporate affairs teams to drive communications and engagement during periods of fundamental change that protects and enhances the reputation and financial success of projects, organisations and individuals.
He develops engagement approaches aligned with the strategy and purpose of a business with an emphasis on messaging and story creation that recognises the nuances of the human response to change, different business cultures and the current socio-political environment.
Chris has worked in senior agency positions growing revenue and client satisfaction, in-house roles such as the UK External Relations leader for IBM and acting head of Corporate Communications for Engen in Africa, as well as an independent communications advisor.
In addition to client assignments Chris mentors and trains upcoming communications professionals from previously disadvantaged groups.
